Do you like bagels? Well you gotta visit Manchester Press cafe off a little laneway called Rankins lane off Little Bourke St in between Elizabeth and Queen St. Before I say anything else, you need to try the ‘pulled pork bagel’ and the ‘mixed berry mascrapone with pistachio bagel’. My new favourite cafe.
On the weekend we were in the city with our nephew just in time for lunch. Because I’ve been looking for Melbourne’s best cafes we decided to take on Manchester Press. Someone tell me why these awesome hipster Melbourne cafe’s are all in alleyways? Luckily they don’t do dinner because some of these alleyways at night can be scary.
Anyways, we went for lunch and I knew this was a popular brunch cafe but what I didn’t know is that they served an array of super yummy bagels. We were lucky to sneak in a table for four before a whole rush of people came, otherwise we would of been waiting 10-15 minutes to fill our stomachs but 10-15 minutes isn’t that bad compared to . We ordered a bunch of coffees as one does at a cafe and a babycino for my 3yr old nephew. He seemed to love it and the coffee was also superb.
Now onto the bagels, I ordered the pulled pork bagel and it was exactly what I needed. The pork was sweet and tender and went well with the bagel. Jenny ordered the mixed berry mascrapone bagel with pistachio’s so we could try a savoury and sweet bagel and I was so glad she did. I love mascrapone and I’ve just found a new way to enjoy it. I only got to have a bite of the B.L.T bagel which was okay but I really would recommend the pulled pork and mixed berry mascrapone bagel.
Although they have other brunch dishes, I’d definitely come back to try out some of the other bagels or the two I had again. Like it says in the title, Manchester Press is another hipster Melbourne cafe and now on my list of Melbourne’s best cafes. The setting is nice and relaxed, I’m not sure if it was staff or customers but they just sat themselves outside and had a bite to eat. Bike friendly because there’s plenty of space to leave them locked up on whatever you can find and very kid friendly because my nephew enjoyed himself and there’s plenty of room for prams.
I love Manchester Press and I hope most people would agree with me too. Unless you don’t like bagels and good coffee.
